The Wine Cellar

Beneath The Stafford London lies a captivating story within its 380-year-old wine cellars, built in the 17th century by Lord Francis Godolphin. Over the centuries, these cellars have served many purposes — from secret passageways reputedly leading to St James’s Palace, to housing the famed Madame Prunier wine shipping company, and even acting as an air-raid shelter during WWII.
Today, relics such as the last remaining casket and historic wine corking machinery are proudly displayed alongside artefacts left by American and Canadian officers.
Home to over 8,000 bottles of rare and prestigious wines, cognacs, and whiskies, the cellars provide a unique and atmospheric backdrop for private dining, exclusive events, and bespoke wine tastings.
Led by our expert Head Sommelier, tastings and dinners can be tailored to your preferences, creating a truly personalised and memorable experience. With carefully controlled lighting and temperature, the space is designed to showcase every wine to perfection.
Celebrate your next special occasion or business event surrounded by history, elegance, and world-class wines at The Stafford London.
